BOD Bournemouth (79 Boscombe Overcliff Drive, BH5 2EL)

INTRODUCTION

BOD is a holiday flat for people with disabilities and their families, situated on the cliff top in Bournemouth, Dorset.
The ground floor flat has been converted specifically so that it is fully accessible for wheelchairs and other disabilities. There are no steps and all doors have at least a 750mm opening. Light switches are at 1100mm and a large number of electrical sockets are at accessible height. Door handles are at 860mm and are lever type.
Smoke and fire alarms are situated around the flat as well as emergency alarms in the front bedroom.
All showers are wet-room style and shower seats are provided in the two en-suite rooms. The flat has thermostatically controlled gas fired central heating.
There are many facilities available in the flat including games, books (some large print) and TV/broadband (including a wireless router for broadband access throughout the flat). Leaflets and brochures of places to visit are also available.
A fully accessible beach hut is available for part of your stay at a Blue Flag award winning beach (which is very close to the flat) for no additional cost.

BOD has been rated under the National Accessible Scheme and has received M3A for Mobility Impaired, H1 for Hearing Impaired and V1 for Visually Impaired. It has also been rated for self catering receiving Four Stars and the Gold Award from Visit England.

We have an extensive website at www.bodbournemouth.co.uk with diagrams of the floor/room layouts and pictures/slideshows of both inside and outside.
Bookings can be made directly from the website or via email, telephone or letter.
Large print booking forms, directions of 'how-to-find-us' and other information are available.
This access statement is available on our website and also in the "Welcome File" in the flat.

ARRIVAL & CAR PARKING FACILITIES

The changeover day is Friday with arrivals from 4pm and departures up to 10am.
You will be able to drive up to the front door of the flat to unload your luggage.
There is a level hard surface from the car to the flat.
There is plenty of level parking space.
There are two sensory operated lights at the front.
We will meet you on arrival and show you around.

The pathways are wheelchair and walking aid friendly.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

An extensive range of extra equipment is available for guests at no extra cost including a mobile hoist and a "tilt-in-space" shower chair. If there is any need for additional equipment that is not on the list, it can be hired from local companies (see below).
Assistance dogs are welcome. Assistance dogs
and children cannot be left unattended in the garden as it is ungated. There is an accessible spending facility across the road.
There is a 'no-smoking' policy in the flat. However a small smoking area has been provided outside.
A folder of all the manufacturers' instructions is available.
There is an extensive Welcome File in the flat which comes in normal and large print versions as well as places of interest leaflets.
There is cable broadband at no additional cost
with wired or wireless connections - a wireless router provides broadband access throughout the flat.
Eco friendly duplex laserjet printer with Airprint/WiFi connections.
We have created over 20 "Wheelchair Wanders" to help you enjoy the area.
Our own "BOD Bible" (an accessibility directory) contains comprehensive information for people with a disability on the Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch, New Forest and Dorset areas.
We have created over 20 accessible "Car Free Capers" so you can enjoy your holiday without having to use your car.
We have a selection of treasure trails exploring the local area which are suitable for wheelchair users.
Visual accessories include magnifiers (hand held and hands free), large print books, large playing cards, an audible/vibratory liquid level indicator, a talking alarm clock, Audio Descriptions on all TV's and a selection of talking books (including a DAISY CD player).
Hard of hearing facilities include a vibrating fire alarm and alarm clock, strobe lights on emergency alarms and subtitles on TV's.
A digital monitoring device is provided with the facility for 2 way conversation.
A travel cot and high chair are available.
You can have the use of our accessible beach hut (usable throughout the year) at Fishermans Walk Blue Flag award winning beach (which is very close to the flat) for part of your stay at no additional charge.
A beach wheelchair can be booked for use at the Fishermans Walk beach from Bournemouth Council (01202 451773).
The nearest General Hospital with an A&E unit and walk in NHS is Royal Bournemouth Hospital which is 2.5 miles away. The nearest Doctor's surgery is 0.6 miles away. Further information is contained in our Welcome File.

At the junction of the A338 and the A3060 (the Cooper Dean Roundabout), take the A3060 signposted to Bournemouth Hospital and Christchurch.
Pass Royal Bournemouth Hospital on your left and continue through 2 sets of traffic lights until you reach the roundabout (approximately 1 mile).
Take the 3rd exit towards Boscombe and Southbourne.
At the fourth set of lights (the first and third are pedestrian), turn left into Seabourne Road signposted Southbourne and Tuckton (B3059).
Just after the Pedestrian lights (after approximately ½ mile), take the 2nd right into Portman Terrace.
Take the 2nd left into Portman Crescent (alongside Fishermans Walk).
At the T junction, turn right onto Boscombe Overcliff Drive.
BOD is the first property on your right (number 79).

The property can be distinguished by it's Red Gate Posts, Red Front Door and large number 79.
